On average, the prevalence of Post-Stroke Depression (PSD) is 33% and Post-Stroke Suicide is 7%.  In keeping with the Joint Commission Comprehensive Stroke Standard, this presentation will address key issues involved in identifying and treating PSD and identifying the differences between PSD, Apathy and Emotional Lability.  Additionally, participants will learn how to develop an algorithm for the assessment of PSD in their health care system.

Learning Objectives:

- Understand the difference between Non-Pathologic Sadness, Post-Stroke Depression (PSD) and Apathy
- Identify 5 outcomes or areas most impacted by PSD
- Develop an algorithm for assessing PSD in their health care system

Credits: 1.25 Nursing Contact Hours, .25 Pharmacology

The Association of Rehabilitation Nurses is accredited as a provider of continuing nursing education by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation.
